Well thats what I am calling it! lol! This is a wall hanging I made for this weeks Just For Fun Challange. This weeks theme is focusing on material and/or fibres. It is the last in the materials themed challenges and what a great month it has been. I have really enjoyed joining in. For full details of the challenge, the super samples by the design team and the fab entries in the challenge, click on the JFF logo on the sidebar.
I am going to be honest, as we are all friends now, this is my second attempt at this weeks project. The first one, which I planned, drew out, cut out material for just wasn’t happening. So in the end I took my fabric and just splodged, stamped, placed material here and there and this is the result. I am quite pleased with it and it was a lot more fun not knowing how it was going to turn out.
The canvas was made from a piece of fabric cut from a denim shirt which I coated in gesso, stamped the birds and painted the leaves on using a mask. The red is fabric from an old scarf.
The flowers are made from fabric from an old top and the backing is a piece of leather cut from a panel of a skirt. I originally bought the skirt, from a charity shop, to make some leather boots for a rag doll I made. I have still got loads left over.
For the flowers and leaves I cut out wobbly flower shapes and leaf shapes and then blasted them, on the reverse of the fabric, with a heat gun to melt the synthetic fibres.
Oh, just one thing I wanted to share. A pyrography tool is really handy for melting the edges of fabric or cutting out shapes. I know it is an old technique but I just thought I would mention it. That very well known German supermarket some times have them on offer for very little money.
I think thats it from me for today. I have woffled on enough! lol!
Have a great weekend.
Best Wishes Florence.
