Altered Book – JFF Challenge

I have altered a book for this weeks Just For Fun Challenge.  This weeks challenge theme has been chosen by the lovely Von.  The challenge is to create something using books, brochures and magazines as the main feature.  For full details of the challenge, the DT’s inspirational pieces and all the fab entries click on the JFF logo on the sidebar.

I had Poppy Day in mind for this photo frame.

Here is a photo of the side view.

I tried sanding down the the embossed title on the spine but decided it was better to cover it in some braid.  The little jewelled embellishment is part of a necklace.  The small poppy is made from some scrap lining material which I blasted with a heat gun.  The vintage photo of the soldier came from JS

If I was making another one of these to stand up on it’s own, I think I would put some sort of weight in side.  Something like fishing weights, or a small pieces of re-bar just to make it sturdy.

The inspiration for this  picture frame came from a book by Kelly Rae Roberts “Taking Flight”.   I have also seen  similar ideas  in other craft books and in a home decor magazine.

Before I go I just wanted to share these with you.  I bought these books in a Charity Shop on Wednesday.  There were quite a few of them but I chose four of them.

Book by Francois Mauriac: therese desqueyroux : Roman

I just loved the covers.  It seemed a shame to leave them in the shop.

That’s it from me for today.  I am off for a cuppa.

Best Wishes Florence

Imagine stumbling across those books, I can well understand why you couldn’t leave them in the charity shop.

    • Hi Hazel. Hope all is well. I have one idea for the book with the lady on. The text inside the books is in french so I can’t decide what to do with the others. Whether to alter them or use the pages and covers seperately for different projects.
Thank you for stopping by and for your lovely. Always great to hear from you.

  8. Cannot believe someone would send those beautiful books to a charity shop. Glad they have found a good home!
Your entry this week is, as usual, beautiful – and what a lovely thought to do it as a soldier and include medals and a poppy. I love your poppy by the way – am partial to poppies – they remind me of my best friend who died several years ago.
Well, Florence, another wonderful entry – Thanks so much for sharing with at JFF – Hugs, Neet x
