Decorated Wooden Box – By the Beach

This week is the last challenge over at Just For Fun.  The lovely Neet has continued the “mans” theme and has chosen “distressed him” for the challenge.  For full details of this challenge, Zoe’s, Von’s and Neet’s fab inspirational pieces and all the entries click onto the JFF link above.

I have decorated a box for this weeks challenge.  A little bit over distressed but then what is new!

This is the lid.  Oh my! what a problem I had stamping on to this.  This was about the fourth attempt because the lid is rounded.  Normally I would roll the box over the stamp rather than applying the stamp to the box but it just kept missing pieces.  In the end I inked the stamp and then stamped the box by placing the stamp (unmounted) on edge of the box, pressing and lifting as I went.  A bit like you would a large transfer.

I base coated the box with blue acrylic, added a coat of PVA glue and then the top coat of white acrylic.  Inside he box I have just given it a wash of colour.  I diluted some blue paint with water and painted it on.  I used staz-on to stamp the images and coloured them in with distressing ink.  I fixed the colours with some spray varnish.

This is a card I have made to go with the box.

I am really sad to see JFF end but realise life moves on.   Thank you ladies for the great challenges.  A special thankyou to Zoe.  Without all of your encouragement and assistance in the early days I probably would have given up blogging after a month.  I started joining in the JFF challenges around the time I started blogging.  It has been such great fun and I have met some amazing and extremely talented crafter.  I hope the friendships that have been formed this past year will continue.

I looked through my blog last night.  JFF has played a huge part in my crafting this past year. The only question is…. what to do with all the spare time that I will have now! lol! Maybe Freddie will get some cooked meals,  the house may return to a reasonable state and the garden may look less like a wilderness!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Best Wishes Florence x

  2. I love blue colours… and a few years ago I made a change in my kitchen. It was about decoration and the concept was the blue colour… everything is in blue… porcelains, plastics, etc. So you can see how much I love blue colours… This is amazing and so beautiful dear Florence, you inspire me again… Thank you have a nice day, with my love, nia

  11. Well Florence, you certainly made JFF go out with a bang, as Zoe asked, with this entry. Another amazing piece of work from you. You know Florence, you give so much of you to each and everything you do that it is always a pleasure to visit your blog. This is simply beautiful and I admire you for sticking with it for so long until you got the image right but just look at it … it was well worth it.
Why not look at Zoe’s other blogs and join in with those challenges, you know what they say “as one door closes another one opens”.
Thank you for giving so much pleasure to everyone over the past few months, I’ve enjoyed getting to know you and your work.
    Love

  12. This is fabulous Florence, what a great little trinket box you have made. I love the card too and the addition of the rough twine on the side is perfect.
When I was a little girl my parents had a post office, and in the postmans sorting office was a giant ball of this rough twine, when we left, it was left there , everytime i see twine like this i feel sorry we didnt bring it away with us . Gorgeous work , both pieces are truly lovely. Its a shame theres no more JFF but I hope we will still keep in touch. Take care and have a lovely weekend 🙂 x
