Pillow Boxes

I made a pillow box for the first Out of a Hat Creations challenge.  The challenge this week is a box – make one, alter one or decorate one.

For full details of the challenge and to see Chrissie’s, Janet’s and Sandra’s projects click on the OHC link above.

To make my little box, I drew around the template on to a piece of card stock, cut it out and covered it with pretty papers.  All the embellishments where added before the box was made up.  I used a die to cut out the large flower.

The papers I used, although are a very nice quality, cracked down the seem.  Some times this happens some times it doesn’t.  I quite like the shabby effect so I scraped a little bit more at the edges with a craft knife.  These stick pins are lovely but I have put a tiny peace of cork on the end of the one I used here.  The pointed end is a bit scary!

These were really fun to make so I made a couple more to put in the present drawer.  They are quite handy to have in stock.  Nice for wedding favours as well.

Stamps used Crafty Individuals.

The ribbon and the toppers on all of these have been sewn on.

Just to share.  These boxes are not a new idea and have been around for years.  There are no doubt lots of different templates available on the internet.

Best Wishes Florence x

  12. Beautiful boxes Florence and isn’t it funny how we all have our favourites – mine is the flower one – gorgeous. Think I had one of those Anna Griffin mylar templates at one time – long gone now, to that great craft room in the sky (or the tip, not sure which).

    • Hi Ann. Hope all is well. You sound like me. I keep all sorts of templates (usually made from cereal boxes) then I have a clear out and throw them out. As soon as I have I want to use them! 🙂 I think my favourite is still the first one. Thank you for calling in and for your lovely comments. Always great to hear from you.

  13. They´re all so lovely – I didn´t know that´s what they were called. The simple ribbon ones would be fabulous for wedding favours but I especially liked the beach huts and bunting!

    • Hi Tanya. I have to say, I am not hot on names of things either, especially as they change over the years! 😉 I have a feeling they sell these boxes, flat packed in the wedding department of craft stores, to decorate for wedding favours. Always great to hear from you. Thanks for popping in and for your lovely comments.

    • Morning, Morning! I was a bit confused there for a minute! I did think about changing a couple of months ago because of the comment problem but to be honest I am glad I didn’t. More than happy with WP. Love that header you have used!??
We have the same problems with candies and lollies. They have that horrible synthetic tang to them. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a Thorntons shop near by!! YUM!
Thanks for calling in Marie and for your lovely comments. Always great to hear from you.

      • Lol I didn’t choose the header I just opened the account and am still fiddling with it. When using my iPad it won’t let me comment on WordPress blogs for some reason so this morning I used this account to leave my cooment. Am afraid of losing all my followers , although now with my feed burner not working hardly any one is getting them anyway. !! Also WordPress blogs don’t turn up in google reader so how do people find out you have posted !!! Thorntons would be fabulous but not for the waistline blogging has already made me a porker !!

        Like

        • Hi ya Porker! LOL! Baring in mind where we live. WordPress blogs show up in google.com. I noticed that a few months ago. You can also find other wordpress blogs on http://en.wordpress.com/tag/craft/ You just have to change the “craft” to say “stamping”, “cardmaking” or “sewing” or what ever tag you want to find. It took me 12 months to find this one out!! LOL! If your followers subscribe to your new blog, and I am sure they will, they will get updates in the usual way. Let me know if I can help in any way. Talk about being a porker. I am on a diet inspired by the food on Simply Tia’ blog. I have lost 5 kilos!!! Yey! I am doing a little jig here but you cant see me!! 🙂

            • “Jigging Days”!!!! LOL! I better just point out Tia’s blog (link on the sidebar) is not a diet blog it just delicious, incredibly yummy, healthy food. Who would have thought that those words could be used in the same sentence 🙂 Out of the Hat – Chrissie produced the blog over night so to speak so there wasn’t a lot of time. She has done an incredible job. Hope you will join in. It will be lots of fun.
