Morning everyone. For this weeks Out of a Hat Creations challenge we are asking you to focus on a bit of sewing in your project. This can be hand sewn or machine sewn. As much or as little as you would like. Projects can be made from card or fabric. The choice is yours. Maybe you have a little project hidden away in cupboard that needs finishing. Now is the time to fish it out and share it with us.
My first project for the challenge is a canvas bag made out of some off cuts and scrap fabric. I lined the inside of the bag with some pale blue gingham.
Last year I purchased an old bag from the charity shop. The handles were perfect it was just the fabric that was a bit…. well “whiffy” for want of a better word!!! lol! I unpicked it, and used the pieces as a pattern which you can see here. The bag above is slightly different without the pleats.
I also made a couple of cards. My crafting and blogging time has been reduced lately so when I get chance to craft I have to go for it.
I went for two different styles. I’m loving this printed fabric tape at the moment.
I think I need to refresh my sewing skills a little bit. The stitching is slightly dubious but oh well tomorrow is another day.
Stamps used: Dress forms, buttons and cotton reels – Chocolate Baroque. The dress makers label – Crafty Individuals.
Happy Crafting everyone.
Best Wishes Florence x
All great projects Florence as always but the cards are amazing. I have never been able to sew on card at all so must spend more time having a go.. I need tips please 🙂

I’m a terrible sewer, so am very impressed by the bag! Sewing machines just break when I sit down at them, but I do love the stitching on cards I’ve seen – yours very much included! The one with the fabric tape is yummy in its colours, design, and button details. I’m wondering whether one of those handheld hemming machine wotsits is the way to go… not sure they even still exist.

Hi Alison. Great to hear from you. I have seen those hand held sewing machines in the pound shops. Not sure how successful they would be. I’m thinking about laying things down flat to sew. Thank you for your lovely comments.

Florence, fabulous bag! I love the fabric design and colors. The cards are so much fun to see. All the sewing notions make for a great collage of sewing fun.
I haven’t done anything new lately. Trying to get a children’s story illustrated…it seems like such a monumental job, that I keep saying “tomorrow’s another day”, too. Maybe I should just start with the paperdoll page.
Blessings,

For someone (that is me!) who adores bags I cannot begin to imagine the freedom of creating your own and even better, utilising “whiffy” chartiy shop find. This is stunning, I would be in dreamland if I had this bag on my arms.
Then the cards – stunning.
An amazing post Florence.

Tres chic, Your bag is so elegantly beautiful it would make any summer ensemble tres chic. It is wonderful to be able to create one of a kind fashion accessories. I am fortunate to have a sewing room or “my atelier” as I call it. It is also my hobby/craft room, I’ve been sewing for years but my ambition now is to make cards as beautiful as the ones you create.
