Owl Be Seeing You – Recycled CD hanging

Hi everyone

Today I would like to share a little project I made using Lesley Wharton’s free background papers for the Chocolate Baroque Color Challenge.

Flo Langley Owl Be Seeing You 022Awm

To make this project:

The CD Base.

Drill two holes, for hanging purposes, in an old CD.
Sand done side of the CD using sand paper.
Attach the backing paper to the sanded down side of CD using PVA glue and trimmed it to size.
Paint some circles using purple craft paint and leave to dry.
Mask off half of each circle and stamp the script.
Use a stencil and relief pasted to make the small circle patterns and leave to dry.
Gently sand the relief paste circles to take off any ruff edges.
Paint the paste circles with yellow/gold paint.
Sand the painted paste circles lightly and add Walnut Distress Ink using a sponge.
Optional – Apply to coats of spray fixative to the surface of the decorated CD.

Owl Embellishment.

Stamp the owl 4 times onto card stock.
Cut out parts of each stamped owl image that you wish to use for decoupage purposes and color them.
Optional – Coat each cut out colored piece of the owl with Mod Podge or Similar.
Use foam tabs or Silicon, construct your Owl using the cut out pieces.
Attach the owl, using Silicon or PVA glue to the decorated CD.
Attach the chain for hanging purposes and any embellishments.

  1. Glorious upcycle Florence, i do enjoy using CD’s as a substrate. Wonderful colours, textures and a definite WOW from me.

Have been collecting CD’s for years as we want to have a water feature made from them. Slightly ambitious but giving it a go lol! 🙂 xxx

  3. Hello Florence. . . . I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this amazing piece of artwork.

I’ve never been able to think of a really great way of ‘re-cycling’ old CD’s , other than the usual garden bird scarers or made into clocks … everything else always seemed so predictable and (kind of) boring and dull. But you, my wonderful crafty friend, have made this stunning piece of art which I would elbow everyone else out of the way in order to buy from you.

I love every single aspect of it. Really clever crafting Flo. But then … you’re a really clever, brilliant crafter!
(…. sorry haven’t been around much – I’ve been poorly.)
Sending warm hugs, ~ Cobs. x
