Betty’s Home and Garden – Matchbox

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments and kind words on my recent posts. I will be replying to each one very soon.

I wanted to try and get this post out as soon as possible because I want to enter into the PaperArtsy “Matchbox” challenge.

In one of my recent posts I mentioned to you that I was thinking about doing some papier mache projects. You will be pleased to know my glue has arrived!! 🙂 Whilst I was thinking about what I was going to make with that I had an idea for the challenge project.

I will make some more of these little figures because quite honestly she was so much fun to make.  This was a sort of prototype and needs modifying but when I have sorted it out I will make another with an sbs and some photos along the way. I think we will call her Betty.

These stamps are very new to me. I was very lucky to win the PaperArtsy challenge recently and these are some “Jofy” stamps I purchased with my winning voucher.

The draw and cover. Betty’s garden.

The stamp used to make Betty is Jofy 53

The back of the draw. Betty’s house.

Inside the draw

I love Betty’s chunky Mary Janes 🙂

Those boots were made for walking!

The draw with the cover on.

The base.

The Matchbox cover was made with water colour paper, coloured with distress inks and the water colour pencils.

The draw was made out of card stock and covered with back pages and pretty papers.

Betty was painted with acrylic paints.

Thank you for looking.

Take care,

Flo x

P.S. Betty and her home were made to enter in the Paperartsy challenge. I was very lucky and my number was randomly picked as the winner. A huge thank you to Leandra and Paperartsy.

  1. Absolutely adorable, Flo! You are so talented!! Betty is so cute with her smile, welcoming wave, and happy flower hair adornments. Her house is like a mini dollhouse – I like how she fits right into it. Love your creations!

    Blessings for a wonderful Wednesday,
    Marianne xo

    1. Thank you Marianne. I do have to give credit for Betty to the lovely design on the “Jofy” stamp I used. The box looks a little big but I had it in mind to add a little dog or something to go with her and then ran out of time. Maybe Betty will get a dog for Christmas/life 🙂 God Bless, Flo xx

  2. 😀 I just adore your project, Flo! How fun and cute doll and matchbox! 🙂 Betty’s body and her hair’s ornaments are delicious!! And that matchbox with all her world is really brilliant and sweet! Love the colours and the beautiful paper! So clever using the bobbins of the stitching machine for “feet” of the box, wow!!! They are just perfect! Your water colouring is really lovely, as well the acrylic painting on Betty.
A masterpiece! I wait to see new characters! 😉

    1. Thank you so much Alice. Again, I do have to give credit to the “Jofy” stamp that I used as the base of Betty. I think Betty will have lots of adventures and friends in the future!!! 🙂 Hugs Flo xx

    1. Thank you Ali. I had intended to give her Dr. Martins but when I was painting the lines for the laces they joined and turned into Mary Janes!!! lol! She is so tiny. My eye sight is not what it was. All good fun though.
      Hugs Flo xx

  3. OMGosh Flo, Betty is adorable, what a fabulous project, your creativity is amazing, I love the miniature home and garden, Kate x

  4. My heart smiled when I entered Betty’s world. Oh to have magic and shrink down to the size of Betty. What a wonderful time I would have in this enchanting world. Cheers Virginia

  5. I love the box design with the little feet, Betty, of course, both fun and original! Quite tiny for papier mache, must be fiddly to make… The whole box is wonderful, well done Flo!

    1. Thank you Christine. I am so pleased you like her. She is tiny!!! …and I haven’t got the smallest of hands. They are more like shovels. She was fun to make though.
      Hugs Flo xx

  6. Utterly charming… I love how she can hop in and out of the box, and she looks great both outside the house and in the garden. A really lovely idea beautifully executed. Sorry I’ve been such a bad blogger this year… visiting has almost entirely escaped me except for DT duties. Here’s to a better 2019!

    1. Hi Alison. Thank you for calling in and for your kind words. It is lovely to hear from you. It is difficult trying to blog and create at the same time. Take care, Flo xx

  7. What a fantastic project, I can see this idea going down well with young children, a portable play set! Your little figure is wonderful. Does the figure come just plain or did you make her? If you did make her how was she created?

  8. This is wonderful Flo and love the knob at one end and the bobbin feet, what a great idea, and little Betty is so sweet. Congrats on your win! x
