Bluebird – Decorative Hanging

Hi everyone,

Another project today featuring another one of the new stamps from Crafty Individuals. For this project I used the new “Bluebird with branch and berries” stamp. Seriously, the image of this stamp is gorgeous.

Jean and Malcolm (owners of Crafty Individuals) sent to me the new stamps and also a small coaster and mdf embellishment to use.  I love working with coasters so I had a lot of fun making this.

I drilled some tiny holes in the coaster and gave it a light sanding. I then gave it a coat of  Gesso, sanded the edges and added a coat of cream acrylic paint and gave it another sanding. I stamped the bird image with Black Staz-On and covered it with a paper mask and stamped the script. I removed the masked and painted the bird with acrylic inks.

I then sprayed sealed it with a fixative which gave it a nice glossy finish. To finish the project off, I added the chains, links and embellishments. It wasn’t until I finished that I thought the swirly embellishment would look equally nice on the bottom.

The little green disks are from an old necklace. Well actually I wore it as a bracelet because my neck is to big!!! lol!

Crafty Individuals products used:

Rubber Stamp – Bluebird and Branch with Berries (Maria Kitano) CI 505
Rubber stamp –  1893 Script CI 214
MDF coaster set of 4
Fernli Must Haves – Curly Swirly

Just to share: The acrylic inks dry quick and are permanent so they don’t need a fixative. Having said that, I do use a thinner with them which does slow the drying time down. I did spray this piece with a fixative/varnish to give it a lovely glossy finish.  I did think One step crackle would have looked nice on this piece to give it an old vintage look.

I will be back with another project soon.

Thank you for looking.

  2. The colouring on the bird is perfect, Florence, another lovely stamp! I love the transformation of the coaster into a hanging and the upcycling of your new necklace is a great way of keeping it in use!
